Before training camp even began for the New York Giants, there were reports from other offseason workouts that rookie edge rusher Abdul Carter would be a player to watch out for. Well, the hype has carried over into training camp for the Giants.

There have been many viral videos of Carter dominating the Giants offensive line. There have been sometimes already that the offensive lineman has to hold him in order to avoid the quarterback being sacked. With this being the case, there is a very good chance that it will all carry over into game action when Carter goes up against other offensive line units. He was the third overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft from the Penn State Nittany Lions, and some think he is the best player in this draft class.
New York Giants Head Coach Brian Daboll Already Praising Abdul Carter Just Less Than a Week Into Training Camp

Carter’s dominance in camp for New York already has the attention of head coach Brian Daboll. He is going to provide a different element to this defense during the 2025 NFL season. Daboll spoke to Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post and said about the rookie edge rusher,
“Until they get here, and you kind of see them move around and ultimately see how they handle it mentally, [you don’t know], ‘Can they pick it up? Do they have the instincts to do it? He certainly has very, very good instincts as a football player. Some players do exactly what’s on the paper: ‘I run 12 yards, I stop, I turn.’ And then you have other players that are very instinctive players. ‘If I run to 12 yards and turn here, I’m going to be covered. Or if I do this, it’s not.’ He’s a little bit of a ‘see ball, get ball’ kind of guy.”
Is there a chance that Carter records double digit sacks as a rookie? With the way he is performing during training camp right now, it would be a surprise if he didn’t. It is still a lot of pressure on a rookie to perform right away, but Carter is a player who can very well produce from the opening game.
There may be a time during the 2025 NFL season where him, Dexter Lawrence, Kayvon Thibodeaux, and Brian Burns maybe all on the defensive line together. Carter no doubt proved he was a game-wrecker with Penn State. He is already showing that he is going to be a difference maker on defense for this team and could be in the running for the defensive player of the year award.
