After Vanderbilt football fans felt confidence in their team following a win over Virginia Tech, the morale is back to the typical low.
The Commodores struggled against Georgia State, losing 22-10 at one point after a wild broken play touchdown for the Panthers. Vanderbilt looked confident and capable during their opening win of the season over the Virginia Tech Hokies. However, the Commodores appear to be back to their old ways as quarterback Diego Pavia could get nothing going on offense.
Vanderbilt Football Fans Disappointed in Commodores During Georgia State Clash
The Vanderbilt football team is back to their old ways after a 2-0 start to the 2024 football season. The Commodores looked dead on the offensive side of the ball against the Georgia State Panthers and failed to run the ball with any sort of consistency. Once the Panthers stopped quarterback Diego Pavia from running and kept the Commodores still on the ground, Vanderbilt struggled on offense.
Pavia is an accomplished quarterback but has been known for the ability he has with his legs over the ability he has in his arm. The quarterback could not run against the Georgia State defense, which essentially sent the Commodores into panic. When Vanderbilt football team began to struggle to run the ball the offense stalled and the Panthers took full advantage.

What happened to our o line, they are getting obliterated by a sun belt team

Nobody ruins positive momentum quite like Vanderbilt

Vanderbilt football fans were not happy during the game as many felt the Commodores had previously gained some ground. However, it appears as though there is still plenty that the Commodores need to work on moving forward to stay competitive. It will truly start with their offensive line play as the Commodores as not providing enough protection for their quarterback and running back.
What is Going Wrong For the Vanderbilt Commodores Football Team?
The issues for the Vanderbilt football team have started and ended along the offensive line as they are not doing their jobs. The offensive line struggled against the Georgia State Panthers, a Sun Belt Conference team that is a cake walk compared to SEC defenses. Vanderbilt gave Pavia limited time and gave the running backs no chance.
Georgia State Panthers linebacker Kevin Swint was the main issue for the Commodores coming off of the edge. Swint recorded two sacks and shutdown his side of the field against the Commodores offense, which led to shortened drives for Vanderbilt. The Commodores were not able to replicate the same kind of pressure on the defensive side of the ball as the Panthers had all day to pass.
The Panthers sent ridiculous blitz packages all game and it worked as someone was getting home almost every play. The Vanderbilt football team cannot continue to play like this moving forward and expect their team to win. The Commodores clearly have talent on the offensive side of the ball, and it would be a shame to see it wasted due to a poor offensive line.
