USC Trojans: Fans Explode To Lincoln Riley’s Redshirt Comments

Lincoln Riley and the #11 USC Trojans are preparing for another BIG10 matchup on the road this weekend against the Minnesota Golden Gophers. USC is 3-1 overall on the season and they are 1-1 in BIG10 Conference play.

The Trojans are banged up at the moment, but they beat the Wisconsin Badgers easily at home last week 38-21. USC needs to possibly run the table to have a shot at making the college football playoffs and also winning the BIG10 Conference as well.

USC Trojans head coach Lincoln Riley spoke to the media on Tuesday. One of the things he mentioned was that the redshirt rule should be changed. Riley said:

“I think guys should have five years. Do whatever you want, play as much as you want or as little as you want, and the only way you get an extra one is if you have two season-ending injuries and miss the whole season. I think it should be that plain and simple and be done, and then nobody’ll have to worry about this other crap about how many games you’ve played and all that. I understand why it’s there, but I still think it’s a little bit behind the times.”

This is an interesting thought to make the redshirt rule a little bit different. Would the NCAA make a change to it after this season? Who knows and it remains to be seen.

There have been some critics of USC Trojans head coach Lincoln Riley in the past. Riley struggled at times last season with Caleb Williams as his quarterback. USC has a better defense this season and quarterback Miller Moss has played well. However the story here isn’t the Trojans season, it is about the potential redshirt change for the future and Riley thinks it needs to be different moving forward.
