The Miami Hurricanes have significantly altered their roster from the team that was able to go 10-3 last season and be a significant threat in the Atlantic Coast Conference. With a lot of talent entering the 2025 NFL Draft and having a massive change in quarterback from Cam Ward to Carson Beck, there are a lot of question marks for the program.
There have been people who have voiced some concerns for the Miami Hurricanes heading into the 2025 season, but Urban Meyer has been one of the biggest voices talking about it. Let’s take a look at what he said about Miami and why he feels this way about the Hurricanes after a very successful season.
Miami Hurricanes Taking Step Back in 2025?

While co-hosting “The Triple Option” podcast with Mark Ingram II and Rob Stone, former college football coach Urban Meyer discussed how the Miami Hurricanes should take a step back in 2025.
“Lost the leading passer, lost the leading rusher, lost the leading receiver, tackler. I got nine wins or less [for the Miami Hurricanes]. I’m going with the under. … Carson Beck turned that ball over all the time.”
While Meyer did mention the Miami Hurricanes losing three games, he did not specify which games he believes those would be. Carson Beck was reportedly given $4 million in NIL to forego the 2025 NFL Draft and instead join the Hurricanes in the NCAA Transfer Portal.
The offense specifically lost a lot of their threats, but the combination of Beck and running back Mark Fletcher Jr. is expected to be a massive 1-2 punch. Last season, Beck completed 290 of 448 (64.7%) of his passes for 3,485 yards with 28 passing touchdowns to 12 interceptions.
Beck would suffer an elbow injury during the SEC Championship Game that required surgery, and he has been cleared for summer workouts. However, his 12 interceptions last year were tied for the most in the Southeastern Conference and had a lot of dropped passes.
Even though Miami does not have the Clemson Tigers on their 2025 schedule, there are still tough games against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, NC State Wolfpack, and Pittsburgh Panthers, to name a few. It will be intriguing to see how Miami looks early and if they can make Urban Meyer eat his words.
