    Update on Darnell Savage’s Injury

Friday night was Family Night at Lambeau field where all of the Packers fans came out to watch a practice. One big concern coming out of that practice was the injury to Darnell Savage. Packers fans anxiously awaited to hear the update on Savage post practice.

    Savage’s Injury

During one-on-one drills, Savage drew second year receiver Amari Rodgers. As he was trying to cover the speedy receiver, he pulled up. He was promptly taken out and spent the rest of the practice with his right leg wrapped in ice. It was positive that he stayed on the field but he did not return. For a Packers secondary that has high hopes and little depth, Savage’s injury had Packers fans hold their breath. For any team, injuries in training camp are not what you want to see.

    Minor Injury

After the practice, Savage downplayed the injury. “I don’t think it’s a concern,” Savage said. He added that it is a “fast people injury” and he would listen to the guys on the right way to handle it. The rest of the coaching staff also did not seem overly concerned. It will help that the Packers have the day off tomorrow so Savage will get plenty of time to rest his right hamstring. Hamstring injuries are always tricky because often you need rest but the week to week of the NFL doesn’t allow that. However, with preseason not even started, Savage will have plenty of time to rest his leg.

Similar to what the offensive line has been through, Savage being out for a week wouldn’t be the worst thing for the Packers. This would give some of the back ups critical reps with the first team offense and could show the coaching staff who should be 3rd on the depth chart. While you never want injury, the hope is the Packers can turn this into a good thing.

You never want to see a player injured. However, the good news is that it seems Savage is okay. It will be something to watch next week during practice. How much Savage is on the field could give us a better idea of the nature of the injury. For now, Packers fans can breath a huge sigh of relief that it was not serious.
