Today is the day that San Francisco 49ers fans have been waiting for. 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy finally went through the procedure for his torn UCL. The quarterback’s elbow was injured during the NFC Championship game, on January 29th. Here is a look at how the surgery went, and when Purdy can start throwing the ball again.

After the surgery was pushed back due to inflammation, Brock Purdy was able to undergo surgery today for his torn UCL. Dr. Keith Meister performed the procedure, and it was deemed a success. According to Mike Garafolo on Twitter, Purdy’s surgery required an internal brace and a UCL repair. This was the hope, as anything else would have required Purdy to remain out for an extended period.

Based on how the surgery went, Purdy will spend three months recovering. After those three months, he can begin throwing again and should be back to full strength in six months. This puts the quarterback in a great position to be in full form just in time for the 2023 season.

The surgery itself was successful, and now Purdy will need to go through the rehab process. This means that Purdy never needed Tommy John’s surgery, which was a big fear. The 49ers will still have quarterback Trey Lance on the roster, as the two are expected to compete for the starting position. This is great news for Purdy who can now focus on healing up for next season.
