Matthew Sluka, former starting quarterback of the UNLV Rebels, has officially entered the transfer portal. After only three games, Sluka stepped away from the UNLV football team to redshirt. He claimed that he was promised $100,000 in NIL money but was only given $3,000, according to an agent for Sluka. Local casinos even offered to cover the rest of the $100,000 but the school reportedly refused.
Are the UNLV Rebels Better Without Matthew Sluka?
In the three games that Sluka started this year, he completed 43.8% of his passes and had 318 yards with six touchdowns and a lone interception. He also rushed for 253 yards and a touchdown. With Sluka at the helm, the Rebels started the year off 3-0. Since that time, Hajj-Malik Williams has taken the reins and has gone wild. He has thrown for 1,017 yards and 12 touchdowns to 3 interceptions, and has a completion percentage of 67.9. UNLV sits at 6-2, but after a tough loss to Boise State, they are now 5th in the Mountain West.
