UFC 285 and NFL Crossover – Jones Brothers

Is anyone else an NFL and UFC fan out there? I was not expecting to see Chandler Jones with winner Jon Jones in the octagon after the main card event.

    Man of the Night

Chandler Jones may get his more than fair share of the limelight as an NFL star, but tonight was his Mixed Martial Artist brother, Jon Jones, turn.

    Controversy

Jon Jones hasn’t gotten good press in a while. He appears dead set on becoming the subject of one of my upcoming Homicide Bride articles. To honor Women’s History Month, the UFC gifted us with a man who likes to allegedly rough up his lady (in front of their children), according to his fiancée, Jessie Moses, in a police statement. She did not press charges.

Jon Jones wanted to make sure to both give and sustain as much brain trauma as he possibly could that night. When Jon was arrested for domestic violence in 2021, he smashed his head into a police car so hard it created $5,000 worth of damage, including a sizable dent and removed paint. He did get charged for this.

Apparently, Jones got cranky after returning from a night perusing strip clubs. This doesn’t seem like a place that brings out the best in Jon. There was an alleged scuff-up in 2019 when Jon Jones used his wrestling moves to batter a waitress.

What Say I? If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, please call the toll-free National Domestic Violence Hotline at 800-799-7233 or text START to 88788.

    UFC 285

The main card heavyweight championship was short. Jon Jones played and defeated his opponent Ciryl Gane in less than three minutes in the first round. Ciryl gave as good as he got, though – he ensured that Jones would never have children again (this seems for the best).

The attempted beheading (Chris Unger/Zuffa LLC via Getty Images).

Apparently, the move that Jones did on his opponent was nicknamed the guillotine. It looked like Jon Jones latched on to Ciryl Gane’s neck and squeezed his head so hard it looked like it would pop clear off. Gane was forced to tap out. Credit is given where credit is due – it was an impressive fight.

Once Gane was peeled off of the Octagon, Jones’ fiancée of 20 years popped in with a pink suit so bright astronauts in space saw her. She then played tonsil hockey with the new heavyweight championship with a vigor that would make your grandmother blush. To which I say again: If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, please call the toll-free National Domestic Violence Hotline at 800-799-7233 or text START to 88788.

After that… hot mess, Jones was joined by his brothers Chandler and Arthur. I was like, OMG, that’s Chandler Jones! The Las Vegas Raider defensive end celebrated with his victorious brother and their other brother Arthur, a former NFL defensive end. It was a sweet moment, and it’s clear that athletic talent runs deep in the Jones family. My favorite part? When Jon tried and mostly failed to pick up his brother Arthur in victory.

Did you catch UFC 285 tonight? Did you know that Arthur, Jon, and Chandler are brothers?
