Chip Kelly is now on board for four more years at UCLA, a position that head coaches and U.S. Presidents both envy. He just signed a two-year extension until 2027, adding to the previous contract that took him through 2025.
The accomplished college head coach, who also has four years of NFL head coaching experience with the Eagles and 49ers, has guided the Bruins to two straight winning seasons and qualified for two straight bowl appearances after the program hadn’t had a winning year in five successive campaigns.
“I am excited about our football program under the leadership of Coach Kelly and his talented staff,” UCLA Director of Athletics Martin Jarmond said in a statement. “The football program is on an upward trajectory, both on the field and in the classroom. Coach Kelly and his staff have done a tremendous job developing young men as demonstrated by their academic excellence.”
The Bruins finished No. 21 in both the final Associated Press and Coaches Poll. They lost to two Top 10 ranked teams (USC and Oregon) as well as unranked Arizona and then fell by two points in the Sun Bowl to Pitt. Still, with a 9-4 record, things are looking up after the best season since back-to-back 10-win seasons in 2013 and 2014 nearly a decade ago.

Before heading to coach the Philadelphia Eagles for three seasons and the San Francisco 49ers for one year, Kelly was an eye-popping 46-7 at Oregon, finishing either first outright in the Pac 12 regular season or tying for first in his division. He posted a 33-3 record in Pac-12 play and led the Ducks to the national championship game against Alabama in 2012.
His first two Eagles teams in the NFL also both went 10-6 before he was fired the third year after going 6-9-0 in 2015.
