Cowboys LT Tyron Smith Out Indefinitely
Dallas Cowboys franchise mainstay Tyron Smith is out indefinitely with an avulsion fracture to the left knee. That means the hamstring tendon behind his knee pulled off the bone it’s attached to. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Smith will need surgery & be out until December. Smith is a 4x All-Pro, 8x Pro Bowler and a member of the 2010’s NFL All-Decade Team. Simply put, he’s as decorated as any lineman to ever play the game. Quietly, over the last three seasons, the Cowboys have gone from being the best offensive line in football to the offensive line being a question mark. Largely, that change has been directly tied to Smith’s health.
Undeniably one of the best in the game, Smith’s health has continued to be a major concern for the Cowboys. 2015 was the last time he played a full season. Since 2018, he’s missed 26 games. As Smith increases in age, the injuries become more difficult to recover from. At 31 years old, the hope is Smith can make a full recovery and return to being one of the best players in the sport. Sadly, the truth is that when you’re as accomplished and as heralded as Smith is, it simply may not be worth it. Money, accolades, and above all, respect are all synonymous with Tyron Smith. We will know more in the coming months, but the silver lining is that Smith’s legacy is secured regardless.
