The LSU Tigers are going to be in an interesting position as the program is looking to figure out who will be replacing fired coach Brian Kelly. There are going to be a lot of intriguing names that come along the coaching search, but it appears that one former LSU Tigers player wants to have his name thrown in the ring for the job.
Let’s take a closer look at who it is and what this would mean for the program if they were to go that route.
Tyrann Mathieu Reportedly Wants to be the Next LSU Tigers Coach

In a social media video discussing the news of the LSU Tigers firing Brian Kelly, former Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III discussed the situation and revealed a name who wants to be the coach in Baton Rouge.
“When you talk about who they should bring in, you guys will not believe who hit my line telling me that they want the job at LSU. … And, guys, I can let you know here right now. You’re going to have to surround this guy with a great staff – defensive coordinator that’s got experience, offensive coordinator that’s got a ton of experience, and other head coaches on the staff that can help him learn the ropes.
But, Tyrann ‘Honey Badger’ Mathieu hit me up and let me know that he wants the head coaching job at LSU. And you can’t tell me any LSU Tiger wouldn’t want him to lead them back to prominence, like they’re supposed to be.”
This would be an interesting hire to say the least if the LSU Tigers went down that route as Mathieu has not coached at any level since retiring in July of this year. Griffin is right in terms of needing a staff with significant experience to help him out. However, it feels like a far-fetched option to immediately jump to the head coach of the program and instead be a coach with the next coaching staff.
Would you want to see the Honey Badger be the next coach of the football program?
