NFL Draft scouts will be getting their final impressions this week at the NFL Scouting Combine and with their pro days coming shortly after. Two LSU Tigers were featured in Fox Sports’ Top 64 best available prospects for the 2023 NFL Draft. Edge rusher BJ Ojulari and defensive tackle Jaquelin Roy were the lone Tigers to be ranked in the Top 64 NFL Draft prospects. Ojulari and Roy will be participating in this week’s NFL Scouting Combine as they will get a chance to showcase their talent on the field in front of scouts around the league.

No. 46. BJ Ojulari, Edge Rusher, LSU, 6-2, 250, Junior:

Hear from Fox Sports of what assets Ojulari will bring to the next level and what positions him to be one of the best edge rusher prospects coming from the college ranks:

“If he were an inch taller, Ojulari might rank as a top-20 prospect, but as is, his burst, bend and tenacity may warrant first-round consideration, regardless.”

Ojulari was able to make an instant impact during his first season at LSU as he appeared in all 10 games for the Tigers. He would finish the year with 16 tackles, 5.0 tackles for loss and would finish second on the team with 4.0 sacks. Ojulari would be named SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week for his performance against South Carolina where he registered a four-tackle, three-sack outing in a win over the Gamecocks.

The Marietta, Georgia native would continue to be a factor for LSU’s defense heading into his sophomore season where he started in 12 games for the Tigers. He would lead all defensive lineman with 55 tackles and sacks with 7.0. Ojulari would also rank second on the team with 11.5 sacks. The star defensive lineman would be named SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week in LSU’s win over Central Michigan. Ojulari recorded three tackles and 2.5 sacks against the Chippewas.

He would be awarded the coveted No. 18 jersey heading into the 2022 season for his leadership on and off the field. During his final season at LSU, Ojulari recorded 58 total tackles (36 solo), 5.5 sacks and one fumble recovery. Throughout his time with the Tigers, he showed that he has versatility to play both the linebacker and defensive end position.

No. 59. Jaquelin Roy, Defensive Tackle, LSU, 6-3, 315, Junior:

Hear from Fox Sports of what upside Roy can bring to the next level and is regarded as one of the best defensive tackle prospects that will be on many team’s radar as we near closer to the kickoff of the 2023 NFL Draft:

“While the aforementioned Kancey gets much of the attention, I am similarly intrigued by the raw upside of Roy, who was overshadowed for much of his college career by great teammates, but boasts a classic combination of size, burst and power.”

Used in a new role this year at LSU, Roy has lost value compared to the preseason rankings.
If on some reps, he struggled because of his new position, he was able to be prolific and show flashes of potential in line with his 2021 season.

Roy would appear in nine games during his freshman season in 2020. He would go on to record 18 tackles, 4.0 tackles for loss and 2.0 sacks. His best game during his freshman campaign would come against Florida where he racked up a pair of crucial sacks that helped the Tigers upset the Gators in Gainesville.

Heading into his sophomore season in 2021, Roy would play in 13 games for the Tigers. Roy capped off his second year with the program by registering 30 tackles, 6.0 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. The Baton Rouge native would remain a key factor in the defensive line rotation and he has the ability to explode off the line to get after the quarterback.

For his final season at LSU, Roy registered 49 tackles (25 solo), 0.5 sacks and one fumble recovery. Roy leaves the Tigers by capping off his career with 48 career tackles, 10.0 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks. He has the upper body strength that scouts will be looking for heading into the scouting combine this week.
