Entering the fourth quarter of Sundays matchup against the Ravens the Miami Dolphins found themselves trailing 35-14. Since 2011 teams entering in the fourth quarter trailing by more than 21 points were 0-711. Until Tua led the Dolphins to a 42-38 win by going 13-17 for 199 yards and four of his six touchdowns in the fourth quarter.
On Sunday Tua was able to have one of the best games in Dolphin’s history. He finished the game with a career-high 469 yards in the air and 6 touchdowns. Tagovailoa now shares the six touchdowns record with Hall of Famers Bob Griese and Dan Marino.
“This just shows the resilience of our team.” Tua said. ” You look at the big picture of it, the confidence goes up……… It feels good, but it’s a collection of everyone working together.”
Tua has been one of the most criticized quarterbacks in the league getting drafted fifth overall by the Miami Dolphins. Since joining the teams, it seemed as if they have been looking for his replacement. Whether it was starting veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick over him, talks about trading for Deshawn Watson, or recently tampering with Tom Brady, there has been plenty of distractions. But finally, it seems that Tua has the support he has earned since college from his teammates, coaches, and fans.
With probably the best duo receivers in the NFL, a pair of veterans running backs and an offensive minded coach, Tua Tagovailoa looks like he is taking the step and finally silence the doubters in week 2 against the Buffalo Bills.
