On Wednesday, Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa participated in the team’s training camp activities until he didn’t. On the heels of opting out of 11-on-11 team activities during the mandatory minicamp, Tagovailoa continued to sit on the sidelines during that portion of Wednesday’s practice. However, on Thursday, Tagovailoa sat on the sidelines for the entirety of training camp day two amid continued contract talks.
Tagovailoa, who enters the final year of his five-year rookie deal, did the unexpected on Friday, going from an observer to full participant in Friday’s rendition of training camp practice. Tagovailoa, like fellow passers Dak Prescott and Jordan Love, remains in contract limbo heading into the 2024 season.
Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa: Full Participant At Training Camp
A day after partaking in zero on-field activities, Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was a full participant on Friday. That includes 11-on-11 team drills, with Tagovailoa firing a 70-yard bomb to superstar wideout Tyreek Hill on the first play. Tagovailoa took every first-team rep during Friday’s 11-on-11 session. Dolphins corner Kendall Fuller called Tagovailoa “impressive” in post-practice interviews, with multiple media outlets praising the offense after Friday’s showing.

“He’s impressive. I mean, he has always looked impressive on Sundays, but it’s different once you get to see somebody on a day-to-day basis. Their mental, how they process information. How they process defenses. You can tell his intent with every snap that he takes. It has been fun to see him, learn from him, and watch him compete,” said Fuller. Across the past two seasons, Tagovailoa has performed near the top of most quarterback statistics.
Tagovailoa: Seeking New Contract
According to Spotrac, Miami Dolphins passer Tua Tagovailoa will enter next fall as the 31st highest-paid quarterback. Spotrac projects Tagovailoa’s next contract to near four-year, $210 million, making him a fringe top-three highest-paid quarterback. Since the signing of head coach Mike McDaniel in 2022, Tagovailoa has performed at a near-elite level.
In his first season under McDaniel, Tagovailoa threw for 3,548 yards, 25 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. He led the NFL in touchdowns percentage, yards per completion, and rating. Last season, Tagovailo threw for an NFL-best 4,624 yards while tossing a career-best 29 touchdowns. The uber-accurate Tagovailoa has completed 67% of his passes across four NFL seasons.
