This past Sunday third year quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and the Miami Dolphins defeated the New England Patriots 20-7. With this win Tua joins an exclusive group of quarterbacks who have started their career 4-0 against Bill Belichick. Only John Elway has accomplished this at the start of his career. Not many quarterbacks have even beat Belichick four times in their careers.
During the season opener Tua completed 23 of 33 passes and 270 yards. He had a passer rating of 78.2 which was 5th best on opening day. Tua completed a dart to Jaylen Waddle on a 4th and 7 for a 42 yards touchdown pass right before the half. Tyreek Hill also had a big game connecting with Tua on eight catches for 92 yards.
The Dolphins defense played a big role in the win as they held the New England Patriots to just 7 points and forced them into a fumble, an interception, and a defensive touchdown. “I told the team last night: ‘This is still the defense’s team until proven otherwise “, Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said. “And they valued that. That was important to them when they heard that. They wanted to prove me right, and they sure did.”
Tua would get the opportunity to improve his record to 5-0 against Bill Belichick and the Patriots when the Dolphins visit Gillette Stadium on January 1st,2023.
