Troy Trojans: Land Standout HBCU Running Back for 2025

The Troy Trojans needed to address their running back position after finishing in the middle of the pack in rushing yards and touchdowns per game in 2024. To make matters worse, their top two rushers departed, as Damien Taylor transferred to Ole Miss, while Gerald Green went undrafted. Most of their running backs are inexperienced, with former Louisville and Georgia Tech’s Trevion Cooley as the most experienced back, who enters Year 5, leading the team with the most career rushing yards at 1,009.

Because of this, the Trojans could add more talent in the spring transfer portal.

According to Pete Nakos, Troy landed former Bethune-Cookman Wildcats standout freshman Dennis Palmer from the spring transfer portal for the 2025 season. Palmer has three years of college eligibility remaining. He was considered one of the best backs in the HBCU last year and one of the best available in the portal.

Bethune-Cookman freshman all-conference RB Dennis Palmer has signed with Troy, his agent @ZCardenez tells @On3sports.

He had a great freshman year

Dennis Palmer committed to the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats for the 2024 season, unranked. Palmer had a great true freshman campaign, later taking over as the starter, leading the team in rushing, and earning him a Second-Team All-SWAC selection. He ran for 706 yards on 159 carries and five touchdowns, as well as eight receptions for 60 yards in eight games.

He entered the transfer portal after the spring portal opened.
