Trey Smith, Kansas City Chiefs guard, was recently asked about former teammate Joe Thuney, who left the team for the Chicago Bears through a trade. Thuney, who played for the Chiefs from 2021 to the previous NFL season, was recently traded to the Chicago Bears during the offseason. Until then, Smith and Thuney made a pretty strong team together, and now the pair will be playing for rival teams.

Smith’s Kansas City Chiefs have been pretty busy during this offseason as they try their best to put the Super Bowl LIX defeat behind them and move on to another Lombardi Trophy. One of their offseason moves was to do away with Joe Thuney who was the older guard between himself and Trey Smith.
“Damn, I miss him” Trey Smith replied to reporters when asked about Joe Thuney.

While the Kansas City Chiefs decided to trade away Thuney to the Chicago Bears, the team was especially generous to Trey Smith who received a whopping contract extension just last week. The deal makes Smith the highest-paid guard in the National Football League currently.

Trey Smith and the Chiefs will be soon kicking off their 2025 NFL campaign with a matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 1 in early September. The Chiefs’ offense will be strongly led by none other than legendary quarterback Patrick Mahomes who is eager to add another Super Bowl ring to his growing jewelry collection.
Trey Smith Recalls Promises He Made To Late Mother
While speaking to reporters after his contract extension, guard Trey Smith recalled the two promises that he made to his late mother, whom he lost when he was only 15 years old. Smith promised his late mom that he would, number one, get his degree, and number two, play in the National Football League.
“I lost my mom when I was 15. I made two promises to her: that I would get my degree and play in the NFL. I didn’t promise her I’d be the highest paid, but I made a promise, man.” Trey Smith narrated to reporters after his contract extension.

A few days ago, Trey Smith signed a four-year deal with the Kansas City Chiefs, which guarantees him $70 million in total. The contract made Smith the highest-paid guard in the history of the National Football League. This was definitely one of Kansas City’s most expensive offseason moves.
