On Thursday night, there was a preseason game between the Los Angeles Chargers and the Detroit Lions at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio. The Chargers dominated the Lions 34-7 in the game, but that wasn’t the biggest story of the night.

One of the biggest stories of the night was Los Angeles quarterback Trey Lance looking like a competent quarterback. Justin Herbert is the starting quarterback for the Chargers, but head coach Jim Harbaugh and offensive coordinator Greg Roman are looking for a reliable backup quarterback for Herbert. Lance completed 13-of-20 passes for 120 yards and two touchdowns in the game.
NFL Fans React To Los Angeles Chargers Quarterback Trey Lance Performing Well Against the Detroit Lions

It is no doubt been a journey for Lance in the NFL so far. He was the third overall pick from the North Dakota State Bison in the 2021 NFL Draft. Lance was selected by the San Francisco 49ers and things did not pan out for him there. He was traded to the Dallas Cowboys before last season and was on the Cowboys roster.
With Lance coming to the Chargers in the offseason, this feels like potentially his last chance to do something in the NFL even though he will not be starting. Some NFL fans said about his impressive performance in the preseason:
Trey looks better than a few starters. Chargers should be getting a few phone calls

I’m not surprised Jim has Trey looking good , he does really well with implementing QBs in his system and making it simpler and slower for them

Lance is 25 years old and there are a lot of fans who are happy for him after his first preseason performance. Also, there were some NFL fans criticizing him as well. The next preseason game for the Chargers will be against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, August 10 at home. It will be another chance for Lance to prove himself as the backup quarterback. As for the Lions, they will next play a preseason game on Friday August 8 on the road against the Atlanta Falcons.
