Trevor Lawrence is set to play among with other starters for the Jaguars this Saturday August 10th at EverBank Stadium. The Jacksonville Jaguars will host the Kansas City Chiefs. Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson says he intends to play his starters for a “series or two.”
Trevor Lawrence Set to Play in Pre-Season Game against the Kansas City Chiefs
This will be Trevor Lawrence’s first game starting after signing his first contract extension with the Jaguars. Its a record-setting $275 million over five years.
The Jacksonville Jaguars intend to look at everybody they have so far on the roster, they have a lot of young talented players trying to make the 53 man roster at the end of pre-season. Head Coach Doug Pederson feels “you have three or three and half quarters (of game time) to look really good and make plays.”
In addition, the Jaguars have gone under some offensive line injury issues. Three out of the five starting offensive lineman have suffered injuries. Even though Doug Pederson has not given the snap count on how plays Lawrence will play in the game, it is predicted to see him do a few drives before being pulled out.
Trevor Lawrence and Gabe David Connection
Despite Rookie Brian Thomas Jr. has stolen the spotlight this offseason, he is expected to be a playmaker along side fellow wide receiver Gabe Davis. Davis has already developed a rapport with Trevor Lawrence and their connection should be on to watch for this next season.
Gabe Davis came over in a deal from the Buffalo Bills this free agency. He signed a 3-year deal worth $39 million. He was a fifth round pick in 2020 by the Bills. Davis never reached the 800-yard mark in Buffalo and has never caught 50 receptions in his career but he did manage to averaged 16.7 yards per catch. His big play ability will give the Jacksonville offense a new dimension and he’ll reap the rewards of catching passes from Lawrence.
Davis reported that “Me and Trevor just starting to go together this year. You got to build that chemistry, put in the extra time if you want to win.”
Final Thoughts
This Saturday should be a great pre-season matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Kansas City Chiefs. For Jaguar fans they will be anticipating seeing their new franchise quarterback even though he will only play a certain amount of time in the game. This is standard is pre-season where most of the starters sit out and watch the young players trying to make an NFL team.
Patrick Mahomes will most likely sit out this first pre-season game and third string quarterback Ian Book will get the start and compete to stay on the Chiefs 53-man roster. The Cheif already have a number two quarterback in Carson Wentz. So both Mahomes and Wentz have nothing to prove for head coach Andy Reid. Its up to Book, if he is ready to compete and be that number three quarterback.
