After stepping away from the spotlight following the 2025 NFL Draft, Travis Hunter—the Jacksonville Jaguars’ first pick in the second round—is officially back in the mix. The two-way sensation was present as the team kicked off OTAs on Monday, drawing excitement from fans and analysts eager to see him in action.
Hunter, who made headlines during his college career for playing both wide receiver and cornerback, is expected to continue playing on both sides of the ball in Jacksonville. With four months to prepare before his NFL debut, the hype surrounding his potential is only building.
Speaking with reporters after Monday’s practice, new head coach Liam Coen praised Hunter’s football IQ and accountability as he transitions into the pros.
“I think so far so good,” Coen said. “He had a couple of missed assignments today that he knew right away. He came off the grass and took accountability for them. The one thing you notice is, for a guy that hasn’t played a ton of football lately—been out conditioning, out on a bit of a tour—the guy can run forever. He just kind of goes, runs a route, runs back. You can tell he’s in football shape. He’s done a nice job. Travis has worked hard at getting this stuff right.”
Hunter’s focus now shifts to locking in and proving he can make an immediate impact in his rookie campaign.

Nick Wright Downplays Travis Hunter’s NFL Star Power
Despite the buzz surrounding Travis Hunter’s arrival in the NFL, not everyone is convinced he’ll be a generational media draw. FS1’s Nick Wright pushed back on the idea of Hunter becoming the face of the league—simply because he’s not a quarterback.
“When’s the last time the NFL had someone in the face-of-the-league conversation that wasn’t a quarterback?” Wright asked on First Things First. “Because I think he’s got a shot at it, and I understand the Jacksonville part hurts him. As much as I love Duuuval, I get that they’re not a major market.”
