With a solid finish to the season, Colorado football could reach double-digit wins for just the second time since 2002. After starting the year 1-1, Colorado won six of their last seven games and is in the driver’s seat regarding a berth in the Big 12 title game.
Last season, in their first year under head coach Deion Sanders, the Colorado Buffaloes went 4-8 despite standout seasons from quarterback Shedeur Sanders and two-way star Travis Hunter. Sanders and Hunter have amplified their performances this season, with the duo receiving consideration for the Heisman Trophy Award. The latter, Hunter has the best chance to receive college football’s most prestigious award. Entering this weekend’s conference clash against the Utah Utes, Hunter has become a unique standout regarding efficiency metrics on each side of the ball.
Colorado Football WR/DB Travis Hunter’s Mind-Blowing Statistic
According to @DNVR_Buffs Colorado Buffaloes reporter Scott Proctor:
Shedeur Sanders has a 139.0 passer rating when targeting Travis Hunter at WR. 158.3 is a perfect passer rating. Opposing QBs have a 43.0 passer rating when targeting Travis Hunter at CB. 39.6 is the rating you get for throwing every pass into the dirt.
Colorado football quarterback Shedeur Sanders has thrown for a Big 12-best 24 touchdowns on 2,882 yards passing through nine games. He has also completed a conference-high 73% of his passes. However, Proctor points out that Sanders has elite efficiency when targeting his top pass-catcher, wide receiver Travis Hunter. Hunter had 69 receptions for 856 yards and nine touchdowns as an All-American last season.
Meanwhile, Hunter has been otherwordly defensively, with opposing quarterbacks struggling to post even modest numbers when throwing his way. Fans and experts can equate Hunter’s lack of defensive counting statistics to opposing quarterbacks housing a porous 43.0 passer rating when throwing his way. According to DraftKings Sportsbook, Hunter is the frontrunner for the 2024 Heisman Trophy Award. With three regular-season games remaining, Hunter is pacing a 1,000-yard receiving campaign with multiple passes defended.
