A few things about Tommy Tuberville, formerly of Ole Miss and Auburn football, and his head coaching career are true. For the most part, he was a winner, posting a 159-99 record in his 21 years as an FBS head coach, winning the SEC Western Division six times and the AAC once, and leading Auburn football to a sparkling 13-0 record in 2004. Also true is that Tuberville’s career as a frontman was marred by horror stories, mainly when it came to him leaving or joining a new school. Nevertheless, seeing Tuberville critical of or praising college coaches on Twitter is weird.
On Tuesday, Tuberville voiced his opinion on a contentious issue, applauding Liberty Panthers High School (Washington) track coaches Brad Anderson and Jason Keniston for their stance on biological males competing against women. The debate over gender ideology, both at the high school and college level, continues to be a hot topic.
Deep-Rooted Auburn Football Coach Tommy Tuberville: Makes Stance on Transgender Athletes
Former Auburn football head coach Tommy Tuberville does not shy away from discussing political issues in sports. On Tuesday, Mallory Sailer of the Independent Women’s Forum published an article about a biological male, identifying as transgender, winning the girls’ 400-meter in-state competition in Washington, ultimately resulting in a state championship for their team. Competing high school coach Jason Keniston said, “How can anyone think this is fair, regardless of the politics of our world and our country?”
We need more coaches like Brad Anderson and Jason Keniston to stand up for female athletes.
Parents, coaches, and educators should be UNITED on this.
Men shouldn’t be allowed to play in women’s sports. Period. https://t.co/zBPgXzDJQO

Tuberville, formerly of Auburn football and now the Senator of Alabama, chimed in on the matter via Twitter, saying, “We need more coaches like Brad Anderson and Jason Keniston to stand up for female athletes. Parents, coaches, and educators should be UNITED on this. Men shouldn’t be allowed to play in women’s sports. Period.” The longtime Auburn football frontman has routinely used his Twitter account to discuss political matters in sports. He has long pushed against President Joe Biden’s legislation to expand protections for LGBTQ+ students through Title IX. He also introduced the Protecting Athletes, Schools, and Sports (PASS) Act of 2023 to regulate name, image, and likeness (NIL).
Tommy Tuberville: Alarming Coaching Stories Take Center State in June
Earlier this month, former Auburn football wide receiver Tyler Siskey, one-half of the McCready and Siskey Podcast, shared a karma-filled story about his relationship with Tommy Tuberville. Before Tuberville’s inaugural season with Auburn football, the frontman called Siskey into his office, telling the holdover, “Tyler, I signed six wide receivers yesterday. If you have any more aspirations of running out of that tunnel, it will be on the visiting sideline. Would you like your release?”
Siskey accepted his already printed and signed release papers. Tuberville again showed an alarming lack of decency a few weeks later when the bench boss released Siskey’s friend from his scholarship without warning following an offseason workout. However, Siskey got the last laugh nearly ten years later when Tuberville came to recruit at powerhouse St. Paul’s Episcopal in Alabama, where the former wideout served as the school’s offensive coordinator. Ultimately, Tuberville lost out on St. Paul’s Episcopal’s quarterback, future three-time BCS National Champion A.J. McCarron, and one-time All-American safety Mark Barron, with the duo landing with the Alabama Crimson Tide.
On the heels of the Tommy Tuberville Auburn football horror story, fans revisited his unceremonious exit from Texas Tech. During a recruits-specific dinner in 2012, Tuberville left to field a call from the Cincinnati Bearcats, never to return. The following day, with the same recruits on a tour of the campus and team facilities, news began to surface Tuberville had accepted the head coaching job with Cincinnati, leaving Texas Tech before their bowl game against Minnesota.
