It’s rivalry week in Big Ten country. As everyone knows, this week is dominated by classic rivalries and pure hatred between certain schools. These rivalries deserve to be highlighted for the energy they bring to the fans and the stakes that are often behind them. Find a good spot on your couch for the day, these are three games you won’t want to miss.
Top Three Big Ten Rivalry Games This Weekend
“The Game” No.2 Ohio State vs Michigan
What other Big Ten rivalry could even come close to being put in this spot? This is probably the most well known rivalry in all of college sports and the fans could not like their counterparts less. Ohio State Head Coach Ryan Day has been grilled on social media due to his poor performance against Michigan in the last few years. Michigan is Ohio State’s last road bump to make the Big Ten Championship game.
Michigan on the other hand is having a rough transition from the national championship-winning Jim Harbaugh to Sherrone Moore. Right now the Wolverines are sitting just barely above .500 and are the last road bump for Ohio State to make the Big Ten championship. If you think the Wolverines aren’t licking their chops looking to play spoiler for the hated Buckeyes, then you don’t know much about college football. Despite their record, Michigan will do everything possible to give Ohio State a dogfight. That’s what makes this game a must watch.
“The Border War” No.1 Oregon Vs Washington
This is another instance of a hated rival trying to play spoiler. Last year, Washington kept Oregon out of the playoffs by beating them twice in one season. Oregon is looking for revenge, plain and simple.
Washington on the other hand is a lot different. They don’t have much to play for at this point in time. However, they have the opportunity to ruin their rival’s perfect season on their turf. They have a chance to knock off their rivals when they are ranked as the No.1 team in the nation. This series has been an even split over the past 10 years with each team taking five from the other.
USC vs Notre Dame
Despite having a non-Big Ten member, this game has one of the richest histories in all of college sports. A win here means very little to USC but a loss here can be detrimental to Notre Dame because they have no championship game to play in. There is an excellent chance that USC can end Notre Dame’s college football playoff bid if they can pull off a win here. Either way, expect USC to give the kitchen sink in a battle to the end.
