Here are the top 8 early contenders for 2022. These players were exciting to watch last year and have a lot of promise
- Bryce Young QB Alabama: It is hard to win the Heisman trophy twice in a row. Bryce Young has the capability of doing just that. He will be coming off his fantastic 2021 year with Alabama. After just losing the national championship, Young should be motivated to be better
- CJ Stroud QB Ohio State: Stroud is leading an offense in Ohio State that puts up over 40 points a game. Strout ranked 2nd among FBS quarterbacks with 10.1 yards per attempt. He threw 35 touchdowns and just 9 interceptions.
- TreVeyon Henderson: RB Ohio State: As a true freshman, Henderson averaged better than 7 yards a carry. He also racked up 19 touchdowns The biggest obstacle for him is that the Heisman is usually given to a QB.
- Caleb Williams: QB Oklahoma: Caleb Williams put himself on notice after stepping in for Spencer Rattler He totaled 24 touchdowns last year. This year he will be at USC back with his old coach Lincoln Riley
- Bijan Robinson: RB Texas: As an early 2021 preseason favorite, Robinson watched the Texas offense struggle. Although he got hurt in week 10, he still topped 100 yards in six of his first seven games. He also had 1400 yards and 15 total touchdowns
- Will Anderson: LB Alabama: It is crazy to think why he was not a Heisman candidate last year. It is rare for a defensive player to win the Heisman. If he can continue to be as productive, he could possibly make a make a real run to win the Heisman.
- Tyler Van Dyke: QB Miami: Van Dyke came on as a replacement in September and quickly blossomed He ended the season winning 5 of the last six games. He also passed for 300 yards in their last 6 games.
- Braelon Allen: RB Wisconsin: Allen had a lack of touches last year but was still very productive. He put up 1,109 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns seven straight 100 yard games.
