    34 Days until College Football

    Lane Stadium

Like Brian Mclaughlin’s article on the top 30 for 30 college football shows…it’s preseason list time.

We are 34 days away from Nebraksa vs Northwestern at Aviva Stadium in Ireland.  Time to start getting pumped for your teams entrance into your home stadium.  To get on this list, you need lots of pyrotechnics, a rabid fanbase, and a loud theme song or chant.  A huge stadium that is routinely jam-packed is also preferred.

Let’s first start off with the entrances that didn’t make it–the Honorable Mentions.

Army Football’s entrance in Michie Stadium isn’t overly intimidating…but their hype videos are legendary:

    Other Honorable Mentions:

Miami and “the Smoke”.  The Smoke brings back memories of dominant Hurricane teams from the 80s, 90s and 2000s.  Sadly it hasn’t meant much lately.

Auburn’s War Eagle.  This would have made the Top 5, but we’re dealing with a live animal that is less than reliable.

Nebraska’s Tunnel Walk.  Most of the fanbase misses the actual walk but gets to see it on a jumbotron.

Below, the Top 5 College Football Entrances, ranked!

    5.  Alabama.  Known more for winning championships than a glitzy entrance, Alabama invested $30 Million in LED lights in 2019 to bring you this in Tuscaloosa:

    4. NC State Wolfpack.  Don’t sleep on the Wolfpack entrance.  Carter-Finley gets rocking, with opposite sides chanting “Wolf” and “Pack” before the smoke builds, the music plays, and the team runs by Fury, a 400 lb wolf statue.  Players earn the right to carry out the Stars and Stripes and North Carolina flags.

    3. Florida State.  Chief Osceola and Renegade, his war horse, and the entire stadium issuing the Seminole War chant is awesome.  It culminates with a spear being planted at midfield.  Known as “Planting the Spear” the team comes onto the team when the cannons fire after Osceola plants the spear.

    2.  Ralphie.  There hasn’t been much to be happy about in Boulder lately, but Ralphie rarely dissapoints.  Something about a 2000 lb Bison, barely under control, sprinting around the stadium is awesome.

    1. Clemson and Howard’s Rock.  If you’ve ever watched a game with Clemson fans, you’ve probably won or lost money on betting on the number of players or coaches who fall going down the hill.  Howard’s Rock was a gift to program from an alum who picked it up in Death Valley, CA.

Just kidding Virginia Tech fans.  Clemson may beat you on the field, but they can’t beat you in the entrance game.

34 Days and College Football will be back!
