As the Madden NFL Football franchise continues to age, it’s in its 34th installment, players still get into all sorts of arguments over the madden ratings.
Professional athletes are for the most part, the most competitive people to ever live. No surprise they would compare each others madden ratings. Looking at who is higher or lower.
LB/DE Matthew Judon 87 Overall
In his first year in New England, Judon had 12.5 sacks and 31 solo tackles. The 87 rating fits because he has the talent to be a game wrecker, the problem lies in his consistency, which is why he isn’t a higher overall.
When he was on, he was on, and he would have multiple sacks and multiple sack opportunity games. When he was off however, he was off and would disappear at times.
S Devin McCourty 87 Overall
Last season McCourty had 40 solo tks, three interceptions and seven passes defended. The 87 fits because he’s still one of the top safeties in football, but he’s 34 and in his 13th season in the league. He’s not the same player he used to be, even though he still has a lot to give the Patriots.
C David Andrews 85 Overall
As the leader and the eight year veteran on the offensive line, his 85 overall rating is appropriate. He’s not the best center in football, but he’s also not the worst. He’s a solid lineman and it’s noticeable when he’s out of the lineup.
T Trent Brown 84 Overall
As the largest human being in the locker room and the eight year vet, Brown is not properly rated. While he has an injury history and issues with consistency, talent wise he should be higher. When everything’s clicking, he’s one of the best tackles in football. To me he should be 86 overall.
TE Hunter Henry 84 Overall
In his first season with the Patriots Henry had 50 receptions for 603 yards and 9 touchdowns. Solid season, but it was an accumulation.
He had more than 50 receiving yards only three times and had some drops. He’s also more of the receiving tight end, Jonnu Smith is more of the blocking one. His rating is to high, to me he should be 80 overall.
S Kyle Dugger 82 Overall
Dugger last season had 56 solo tks, four Ints and one pass defended. He’s a safety in name only, he’s a versatile player who can come down into the box and act as an extra linebacker. One of the young promising players he should be a higher overall, 84 overall better reflects his talent and production.
WR Devante Parker 82 Overall
Last season as a member of the Miami Dolphins, Parker had 40 rec for 515 yds and 2 TDs. He and a 2022 fifth round pick were traded to England for a 2023 third round pick.
He left Miami because of how up and down his NFL career has been. A first round pick in the 2015 NFL draft, he was really only able to find his groove in 2019 and 2020, every other year has been a roller coaster. The Patriots see his talent as do I, I think his rating should be higher to 84 overall.
RB Damien Harris 82 Overall
Harris rushed for 929 yds and 15 TDs on 202 attempts, he also had 18 rec for 132 yds and no TDs. Statistically he had a monster season, but they are inflated. There was a total commitment to the run game last year, to help ease new quarterback Mac Jones.
His overall is appropriate, a solid player, but not one of the “stars” of the team.
S Adrian Phillips 82 Overall
Phillips last season had 41 solo tks, four Ints and five pass defended. Similar to Dugger with his role as a versatile safety, he has more pass defending ability than his run stopping. His rating should be lower, it should be 79.
WR Nelson Agholor 81 Overall
Agholor had 37 receptions for 473 yards and 3 touchdowns. An underwhelming season, he never seemed to be comfortable in his role as the deep threat.
He would get open but he wouldn’t always convert on the big plays, which made New England pretty one dimensional at times. His overall is too high to me, he should be 79 overall.
Other Notable Patriots Madden Ratings
Jones in his rookie year passed for 3801 yds with 22 TDs and 13 INTs and had a completion percentage of 67.6. A solid year, he’s expected to make a leap next season. His overall is 78, to me it should be higher at 82.
Solid player who proved to be the most pro ready in his QB class, not the most talented, but enough to win with.
