The Buffalo Bills have had two players announce their intention to retire following the team’s 32-29 loss to the Kansas City Cheifs in the AFC Champions Game. The Bills will lose a draft pick from 2021, per a decision announced on Friday.
A fifth-round pick by the Green Bay Packers in 2013, Micah Hyde, announced his intention to retire earlier in the year. The Bills said goodbye to the former player on Feb. 4. As an aging veteran who didn’t see much of the field for Buffalo in 2024, Hyde’s retirement wasn’t too stunning.
However, Buffalo is saying goodbye to a 26-year-old on Friday.
Tommy Doyle is retiring

Per a statement by the Bills, the team is asking fans to wish offensive lineman Tommy Doyle the best following his decision to retire from the league.
Per the Bills’ website, Doyle is retiring due to nerve damage from a left leg injury.
“At this point, with the calendar and the healing process, it looks as though it’s permanent,” Doyle said. “I’m just unable to play football at a high level, and it’s time. When you know you know…I was really battling and competing and working to come back from that (ACL) injury, only to be kind of struck with an even more disastrous injury.
“But at the end of the day, there was a lot of negative emotions and anger…doing a lot of reflecting lately and looking back on it, I’ve learned a lot of valuable lessons from it.”

Doyle sustained the injury during a preseason contest against the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2023.
The Buffalo Bills drafted Doyle in 2021

The Bills selected Doyle in the fifth round of the 2021 draft out of Miami of Ohio. The two-time All-MAC offensive lineman appeared in 12 games for Buffalo.
Doyle suffered another unfortunate injury in short career when he tore an ACL in 2022.
Doyle had a big moment for the Bills in a postseason game against the New England Patriots when he caught a touchdown pass to help Buffalo advance to the divisional round for the 2021 season.
Doyle said he’ll miss football but feels like retirement is God’s plan.
“Football is something that I’ve loved and put my life into,” Doyle said. “And I put a lot of time, effort and energy to try to get back on the field. But ultimately, that’s really not the plan God has for me, and I know that to be true. I feel that this is the time to announce it and move on.”
