A former Chicago Bears assistant coach and head coach of the Texas Longhorns was reportedly fired on Monday for performance issues at his most recent job. Several college football coaches have been fired as the schedule turns to Week 13.
The Chicago Bears have one coach on the hot seat
The Bears have a head coach of their own on the hot seat in 2024. Head coach Matt Eberflus is 14-30 overall in three seasons in Chicago. He recently fired offensive coordinator Shane Waldron before their Week 11 matchup with the Green Bay Packers. The Packers defeated the Bears 20-19 at Solider Field after a questionable decision by Eberflus led to a blocked field goal at the end of the game.
Tom Herman was on the Bears staff in 2021 as an offensive analyst and special projects coach. Eberflus chose not to keep Herman when he took over the head coaching job from a fired Matt Nagy.

Herman accepted a head coaching job at Florida Atlantic before the 2023 season. He went 4-8 in 2023 and started 2-8 in 2024. Per ESPN‘s Pete Thamel, FAU is set to fire the 49-year-old coach.

Herman had success in his first two seasons as the head coach of the Houston Cougars in 2015-16. He went 22-4 in Houston, leading the Cougars to a win in a New Year’s Six bowl game for the 2015 season.
Texas poached Herman from Houston after the 16 season. Herman’s best season with the Longhorns came in 2018, when Texas went to the Big 12 Championship (but lost to Oklahoma) and knocked off Georgia in the Sugar Bowl, also a New Year’s Six game.
Texas fired Herman following the 2020 season after he compiled a 32-18 record in four seasons at Texas.
FAU is 2-8 this season and 0-6 in AAC play. They will finish their regular season by hosting Charlotte in Week 13 before traveling to play Tulsa at Skelly Field at H.A. Chapman Stadium.
