Tom Brady, former NFL quarterback, recently opened up about the advice that he gave to Shedeur Sanders after he went unpicked on the first day of the 2025 NFL draft. Brady stopped by the ‘Impaulsive’ podcast, Brady revealed that he simply dropped a text to motivate and encourage the young quarterback after his name was uncalled for in the first round.
Shedeur Sanders, the youngest son of Deion ‘Coach Prime’ Sanders, was expected to be one of the hottest prospects in this year’s draft. However, fans were surprised to see Sanders being picked only in the fifth round of the draft by the Cleveland Browns as the 144th pick.
“I actually texted Shedeur cause I know him very well,” Brady said. “And I said dude, like whatever happens, wherever you go, that’s your first day. Day 2 matters more than the draft. I was 199. So, who could speak on it better than me? Use it as motivation. You’re gonna get your chances. Go take advantage of it,” Tom Brady said on the ‘Impaulsive’ podcast about his text message to Shedeur Sanders after the first day of the NFL draft.

Tom Brady definitely has first-hand experience of having an anxious draft experience. In the 2000 NFL draft, Brady ended up being selected as the 199th pick in the sixth round by the New England Patriots. In an interview some time back, Brady admitted that he felt so anxious during the draft round that he turned off the TV and went for a walk with his parents. He also credited his mom and dad for supporting him in his difficult moments.

It seems like Tom Brady has made quite an impression on Shedeur Sanders. Apparently, Sanders has chosen the No. 12 jersey for his spot with the Cleveland Browns team. While fans of the young quarterback seem to be delighted with his decision, Shedeur Sanders was also called out by many other fans, including Rich Eisen in his talk show.
Shedeur Sanders is one of the newest quarterbacks for the Cleveland Browns and the team will hope that he helps the team do more in the upcoming NFL season. However, Sanders also needs to prove his spot in the team, especially with the Browns already having a couple of other quarterbacks.
Cleveland also selected Dillon Gabriel in the 2025 NFL draft as their quarterback. Sanders may also be trying to honor his own father, Deion Sanders, through his jersey number. Deion ‘Coach Prime’ Sanders played with a No. 21 jersey. Instead of 21, Shedeur simply went with 12, which is the number reversed.
