College football bowl games have been extra wild this week. On Tuesday, The South Florida Bulls held on to defeat the San Jose State Spartans in the Hawai’i Bowl. It took five overtimes for the Bulls to win a 41-39 contest on Christmas Eve.
The very next bowl game on the calendar took six overtimes before a winner was declared.
The crowd of 26,219 at the GameAbove Sports Bowl in Detroit, Michigan, was treated to an exciting game on Thursday between the Pittsburgh Panthers and Toledo Rockets.
A College football game was full of excitement on Thursday
Toledo scored the first points of the game via a touchdown pass from Anthony Torres to Tucker Gleason. However, Pittsburgh would block the PAT and return it for a two-point conversion to score the Panthers’ first points of the afternoon.

The Rockets would take a 20-12 lead into halftime. However, an 11-point third quarter had the Panthers up 23-20 at the beginning of the fourth quarter. Toledo would score 10 in the final 15 minutes, and Pittsburgh would add a touchdown, sending the game to overtime knotted up at 30-30.

It would take six overtimes before the Rockets would take a 48-46 lead that Pittsburgh could not answer, giving the MAC conference an upset bowl win over a Power Four conference, the ACC.
Rockets quarterback Tucker Gleason had a solid day in Detroit, throwing for 336 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. The Panthers were led by running back Desmond Reid, who carried the ball 32 times for 165 yards and one touchdown.
Toledo improved to 8-5 on the season and 11-10 all-time in bowl games. The Panthers fell to 7-6 in 2024 and are now 15-23 in bowl games.
Per ESPN BET, Toledo entered Thursday’s matchup as a 6.5-point underdog to the Panthers.
