The Titans are in the market for a new offensive coordinator. Former OC Todd Downing was fired after he was arrested on the suspicion of drunk driving in late November. Now that the Titans’ season is over, the hunt is underway. The Titans recently requested permission from the Chiefs to interview two people on their staff, Eric Bieniemy, and Matt Nagy.

Titans OC Position: Eric Bieniemy or Matt Nagy?

It is no surprise to see Bieniemy on the list of candidates. He has been the coordinator for one of the best offenses in the league for the past five years. One could argue having Patrick Mahomes helps and while it does, the scheme that Bieniemy runs is a huge part of the production. Nagy came to the Chiefs as senior assistant and QB coach after he was fired as the head coach of the Bears. He previously has been a successful OC which led to his hiring in Chicago.

    Who Is More Likely?

Nagy is probably more likely because it would actually be a promotion. For Eric Bieniemy, it would be an adjacent move just to a new team. My guess is that he has more head coach aspirations. However, he could want to get out of the Andy Reid shadow and show that he can coach a much less talented offense to success. Matt Nagy falls into the category of a coach who probably is not cut out to be a head coach but is a solid coordinator.

There are so many head coaching positions open that we often forget about the other positions that are around the league. The Titans OC position is one that should attract a good candidate. The Titans were 7-3 before a collapse that did involve some injuries to key players. If the team can get some stability and hire a home run candidate, they will be right back in the mix for the AFC South next season.
