The Tennessee Titans have drawn heavy criticism for their decision to give offensive tackle Dan Moore Jr. a four-year, $82 million contract during the 2025 offseason. This move has been widely regarded as the worst decision of the offseason, sparking debate about Moore’s ability to justify his hefty price tag.

Moore’s performance metrics raise serious questions about the investment. Over 1,111 snaps last season, he allowed 12 sacks, a glaring statistic for a player expected to protect rookie quarterback Cam Ward’s blind side. Critics argue that Tennessee overpaid for a tackle whose performance does not align with his salary, reflecting the challenges of the NFL’s free agency market.

By signing Moore, Tennessee aims to reposition last year’s No. 7 overall pick, JC Latham, to his natural spot at right tackle. While this strategy has some logic, the success of this approach hinges on Moore’s ability to improve significantly. His adaptation will be critical not only for the offensive line’s effectiveness but also for Ward’s development as a franchise quarterback.

This decision highlights the broader issue of inflated contracts for offensive linemen in a market where demand often outpaces supply. Tennessee’s gamble reflects the high-stakes nature of free agency, where teams must balance immediate needs with long-term value. Unfortunately, this move has drawn comparisons to other failed signings across the league, further fueling skepticism.

Tennesse’s decision to sign Dan Moore Jr. was recently named the worst moves this offseason. This is detailed more in an analysis by Gary Davenport for Bleacher Report.

The problem is that Moore has shown nothing to indicate over four years in the league that he can be a $20 million tackle. Per Pro Football Focus, in 1,111 snaps a year ago, Moore surrendered a dozen sacks. The year before that, he allowed eight.

Moore is being paid like a top-10 tackle.

He’s nowhere close to that good.

Fans and analysts alike have expressed doubts about Moore’s ability to live up to expectations. His lack of consistency and the Titans’ reliance on him to protect their young quarterback have amplified the pressure on both the player and the team. Whether this gamble pays off remains to be seen, but the decision has already set a divisive tone for Tennessee’s offseason.

As the season approaches, all eyes will be on Moore and the Titans’ offensive line. Success or failure in this high-stakes gamble will not only impact the team’s performance but also serve as a lesson in the risks of overpaying for unproven talent.
