LSU was able to take care of business against UAB, 41-10, on the last home game of the regular season to improve to 9-2 overall as they will now head to College Station next week. It was a night where the offense got off to a hot start on their way to the Tigers ninth win on the year. Here are three takeaways from LSU’s 41-10 win over UAB:
Kayshon Boutte Absent Against UAB:

Kayshon Boutte took the field during pregame warmups, but he did not see any game action nor was he seen on the sidelines during Saturday night’s contest against UAB. Boutte was dealing with an illness and wasn’t able to give it a go for the Tiger offense. LSU did have the flu going around the locker room in last week’s game against Arkansas, so it is a possibility that Boutte was showing symptoms.
Even with Boutte not being involved in the Tiger offense, other notable wide receivers was able to step up in the star wide receivers absence. Malik Nabers led LSU in receiving as he was able to haul in seven receptions for 129 yards on the night. The lone touchdown through the air came in the fourth quarter as Brian Thomas Jr. found the endzone on a five-yard touchdown.
Jack Bech was able to get involved as well as he hauled in three receptions for 61 yards. It has been a down year for Bech after a breakout year during his freshman season in 2021, but he was able to make a mark in the passing game against UAB’s secondary.
Noah Cain Leads the Way For the Tiger Backfield:

It was reported on the telecast that Armoni Goodwin would be out for the season and that Josh Williams was getting the night off after getting banged up at the end of the game last week against Arkansas. That gave the nod to John Emery and Noah Cain getting most of the carries tonight coming out of the backfield.
Jayden Daniels was ultimately the leading rusher for the Tigers as he had 12 carries for 111 yards and a touchdown. Daniels was able to bounce back after a sluggish performance in Fayetteville last Saturday. Even with Daniels being the leading rusher for LSU the running backs were able to make their mark against the Blazer defense.
The rain falling down in Tiger Stadium made the ball slippery at times and Emery coughed up the ball twice. The first turnover from Emery was costly as LSU was on the doorstep of scoring another touchdown. Brian Kelly decided to go away from Emery and give Cain the majority of the workload the rest of the way. Cain finished the game with 13 carries for 76 yards and three touchdowns.
LSU Defense Shuts Down UAB’s Rushing Attack:

UAB’s running game has been their go-to on the offensive side of the ball. The Blazers have one of the best running backs in the country, with DeWayne McBride leading the way for the rushing attack. UAB has had success throughout the season being able to run the ball effectively against opposing defenses.
McBride only had 34 rushing yards on the game. He did find the endzone in the first half after the Blazers got a 66-yard kickoff return that set up UAB for the quick score to answer after LSU went up 7-0.
LSU’s defense came into the game off an impressive defensive showing against Arkansas as Harold Perkins made all of the difference in that game. Perkins and the LSU defense held UAB to just 52 rushing yards on the game. The Blazers was able to give LSU an early scare as they were able to put up 10 points in the first half, but they were shutout in the second half.
