With fantasy football draft season right around the corner, which late round running back sleepers have the most potential to help win your league. Hitting on one of these late round selections could help push you to your leagues championship.
Rashaad Penny RB Seattle Seahawks
Last season Rashaad Penny started the season off having no fantasy value. It was when Seahawks starter Chris Carson suffered a neck injury that Penny was giving the opportunity. During the last six games of the season he recorded double-digit touches and rushed for over 130 yards on four of the final five games, also scoring six touchdowns. With Chris Carson is now on the Texans and Russel Wilson in Denver, Penny should remain their starter and receive a high volume of touches due to the lack of weapons in Seattle.
Tyler Allgeier RB Atlanta Falcons
Drafted with the 151 pick by the Atlanta Falcons, Tyler Allegeir is set to enter a backfield with Cordarrelle Patterson, Damien Williams, and Qadree Ollison. With Patterson and Williams both over the 30 year old mark it could be Allgeier that can benefit from the 54.7% of touches that were vacated from last season. Allgeier led the FBS in yards after contact since 2020. Last season the Falcons saw Patterson put up RB9 numbers for the first time in his career. It’s unclear if Patterson will remain the lead back in a sub-par backfield, but Allgeier has proven he can handle the workload on both running and receiving.
James Cook RB Buffalo Bills
The Buffalo Bills selected running back James Cook with the 63rd pick in this years draft. The Georgia alumni accounted for 1,012 yards and 11 touchdowns during their championship run. Averaging 10 yards per reception and 8.6 yards after the catch. Devin Singletary is expected to be the starting the running back in week 1. However Cooks ability to make dynamic plays on the ground and in the air could make him a more reliable option. Cook has the potential to reach RB1 numbers sooner than expected.
