It is mock draft season for those who participate in fantasy football, but it is never too early to begin preparing for the 2022 fantasy football season. The New Orleans Saints are expected to be at full strength on the offensive side of the ball. It is without question that the New Orleans Saints offense will have to transition without Sean Payton’s play-calling. With that here are three Saints to look at when drafting your fantasy football team:
Quarterback: Jameis Winston

Winston has the chance to have a comeback season after suffering a torn ACL and MCL damage on October 31st against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Before the injury, Winston threw for 1170 yards and 14 touchdowns. Winston’s best showing during the 2021 came against the Green Bay Packers where he had a passer rating of 130.83 and threw five touchdowns. Winston is trending in the right direction, according to first-year head coach, Dennis Allen:
“We like the progress that he’s making. Man. I really loved a lot of the things that he did last year for us–14 touchdowns, three interceptions. There was just some really good stuff that you see and my vision and my hope is that he continues to progress on the same level as he gets another year in the system.”
Winston will have an upgraded receiving core with newcomers Chris Olave and Jarvis Landry. Also, adding a healthy Michael Thomas, will be a huge benefit for Winston. With more weapons being added to the Saints’ offense, he could jump into the discussion of being a top-10 fantasy quarterback. According to FantasyPros, his current ADP is 157, making him the 22nd quarterback off the board. The weapons the New Orleans Saints had a season ago was not enticing, but Winston still averaged 17.5 fantasy points per game.
Running Back: Alvin Kamara

Kamara is set to be in the top ranks in running backs this season for fantasy football. It is without question that Jonathan Taylor is set to become the first running back off the board, but there is no doubting Kamara’s volume with the Saints’ offense. During the 2021 campaign, Kamara rushed for 898 yards and 4 touchdowns. Kamara did see a drop-off in touchdowns, from 16 touchdowns he had during the 2020 season. The lack of quarterback play hurt Kamara, but getting a healthy Jameis Winston back will only help Kamara’s production out of the backfield. Kamara is known to be a top-tier running back with the capabilities of being one of the best pass-catching backs in the NFL.
Kamara’s ADP of 19 has him as the 10th running back coming off the table. Kamara has been a consistent Top-5 PPR running back in fantasy football. There is some concern that he could recieve a multi-game suspension. The multi-game suspension looming provides some risk of drafting Kamara and we could see Kamara fall out of his round round projection in the early draft season.
Wide Reciever: Michael Thomas

There are some question marks with Thomas heading into the 2022 season. Thomas had ankle surgery and then suffered a setback with his injury and missed all of the 2021 season. According to FantasyPros, when Thomas was healthy in 2020 from Weeks 11-14, he commanded a 33% target share and earned a 90.5 PFF receiving grade. Based on his years of dominance, it will be hard for fantasy managers to pass up on Thomas. Signs are pointing to the multi-time Pro Bowler returning to 100%. According to Dennis Allen, it is not out of the realm of possibility he could be back for training camp:
“I think he’s doing well in his rehab. He’s not ready yet. But he’s here, rehabbing, he’s getting himself better and we’re certainly anxious to get him out there.”
According to fantasyfootballcalculator.com, Thomas is being drafted in the fourth round as the 16th WR off the board. Thomas goes as high as early-round three and as late as the beginning of round five. If Thomas is healthy and plays to his potential, the sky can be the limit for the 29-year-old star wideout.
