The Florida Gators finished with a 7-5 record during the 2024 college football season, and they showed positive strides toward the end of the season. Florida was picked sixth in the SEC preseason media poll before the 2025 college football season begins.

One of the reasons why the Gators could be better than expected is because of quarterback DJ Lagway. Lagway will be entering his sophomore season, and he showed a lot of promise as a freshman. One of the reasons why head coach Billy Napier is back for a fourth season is because of the potential for Lagway.

According to Zach Abolverdi of on3.com, he reported that Lagway has been in a boot as he deals with a minor lower leg injury ahead of training camp. This is exactly not how Florida fans imagined this heading into training camp.

Lagway is the most important player on this roster. During the 2024 season, he completed 59.9% of his passes for 1,915 yards, 12 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. Lagway is expected to take a big jump during his sophomore season as long as he can stay healthy for Florida.

DJ lay-a-way because the bum is always hurt

But Florida fans told me he didn’t have major injury concerns

This dude is always hurt. Sunbelt Billy is finished if he’s not healthy.

    — Nick Stelzner (@stelzner_n1150) July 29, 2025

    Hope hes alright

Seems to be hurt a lot

    Concerning

    Florida is tough with him

    — Official Ohio State DG (@DylanEveryday) July 28, 2025

Damn, this dude always seems to have something going on. It will suck if we never see his full potential of a full season due to injuries

    — Pat Sharp (@PatSharp100185) July 28, 2025

If Lagway is injured and if Florida struggles in 2025, there is a chance that Napier is out of a job after the 2025 season. The Gators could be one of the biggest jobs opened if things go downhill for this football program because of the injury. The projected backup quarterback for Florida is Harrison Bailey. If Bailey has to play often for this team in 2025, they will not win many games.
