The Dallas Cowboys finished with a 6-11 record during the 2024 season and quarterback Dak Prescott did not play after the 11/3/2024 game against the Atlanta Falcons because of an injury. Prescott still has four years remaining on his contract.

He is 31 years old and there are no plans to replace him for the future. He has been the starting quarterback for Dallas since the 2016 NFL season. With four years remaining on his contract, it remains to be seen if Prescott will be able to produce. If he gets injured or does not play well in 2025, it will be hard for Dallas to move off of him, even if they want to.
NFL Insider Reveals That Dallas Cowboys Would Have a Hard Time Moving Off Of Dak Prescott

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk listed some of the quarterbacks who are potentially on the hot seat entering the 2025 NFL season. Florio mentioned Prescott’s name on this list, but this was probably mentioned because of his injury from the 2024 season and his bad contract. Florio said,
“He’s probably not on the hot seat, because his $60 million per year contract would wreak havoc on the salary cap if the Cowboys were to cut or trade him (yes, he has a no-trade clause, but he can waive it) in 2026. The complication for the Cowboys is that his $45 million salary for 2027 becomes fully guaranteed on the fifth day of the 2026 league year. They’re basically stuck — all because they waited too long to give him his second contract, and then waited too long to give him his third contract.”
A lot of the issues with this team are because of owner Jerry Jones. With Prescott being paid so much money, they may not be able to give defensive player Micah Parsons a long-term contract extension and may want to play elsewhere. Prescott will not be a free agent until after the 2028 NFL season and Dallas may have to wait until the 2029 NFL Draft to potentially find a replacement for him.
During the 2024 NFL season, Prescott completed 64.7% of his passes for 1,978 yards, 11 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. He also rushed for 54 yards on 13 carries and one touchdown, along with averaging 4.2 yards per carry. With Dallas stuck with him for the next four seasons, they need to hope they get to the playoffs and make a run. If he doesn’t play well in 2025, some Cowboys fans may call for him to be traded or released, but that won’t be possible.
