The LSU Tigers have had one of the worst weeks in college football, and it likely will only get worse moving forward until something is done.
The Tigers recently suffered another disaster on the football field and not only lost their third-straight game, but also had some ugly moments come out of it. Coach Brian Kelly was seen multiple times yelling in the face of his players, including one moment where he called receiver Chris Hilton Jr “uncoachable”. As if the loss and the ugly videos to come out of it were not bad enough, the Tigers have now lost prized commitments in the 2025 recruiting class.
Top-overall recruit and quarterback Bryce Underwood was a commitment for the LSU Tigers for quite some time. However, the Michigan native could only say “no” to outrageous NIL money from within the state for so long. After a reported offer of $12-million from the Michigan Wolverines, Underwood announced his flip, which has caused a whirlwind of moves and issues.
Multiple LSU Tigers commitments including running back Harlem Berry in the class were shocked, with many asking for privacy from the media as they processed the move. After making his decision, the LSU class is left with 25 commitments and the sixth-ranked class in the country currently. But, the Tigers are currently without a quarterback commitment in the 2025 class without Underwood around anymore.
However, that could all change as more commitments in the class are receiving massive offers from outside the program. Another individual has arose as a possible flip candidate and that is four-star wide receiver Derek Meadows from Nevada. Meadows has received a heavy push from the Alabama Crimson Tide recruiting staff as of late which is quite concerning for the LSU staff.
Meadows is not the only player, as cornerbacks DJ Pickett and Kade Phillips have received offers as well, but both have assured their commitments. With Meadows, Alabama might just be the tip of the iceberg as other schools could smell blood in the water if the recruit begins to consider the Crimson Tide offer.
Will the LSU Tigers Lose Another Prized 2025 Commitment in Derek Meadows?
While the LSU Tigers might be vulnerable for commitment flips currently due to their record, that does not necessarily mean that Derek Meadows is lost just yet.
The talented receiver is admittedly not going to receive anywhere close to the astronomical number that Underwood received. However, what Meadows will be offered is a chance to hit the field early as the Crimson Tide have struggled recruiting receivers in the 2205 class. Currently, Meadows would be the top receiving recruit by a long shot and would be scheduled to join an offense that will lose multiple receivers.
At this point in time, the exact details of what Alabama is offering the recruit is unclear, however a path to the field seems more clear with the Crimson Tide. It will be interesting moving forward to see if that factors into the recruitment of Meadows or not.
