The New York Giants finished with a 3-14 record during the 2024 NFL season. Many people were wondering if owner John Mara was going to keep head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen around after regression.

Well, Mara decided to keep them both for a fourth season, and it will be interesting to see if it is going to pay off or not. It appears as if the Giants had another good draft and free agency period in 2025. New York will look to turn a corner in 2025. New York has only made the playoffs twice since winning the Super Bowl in 2011.
NFL Analyst Ranks New York Giants #27 In Power Rankings Entering the 2025 NFL Season

Frank Schwab is counting down his NFL team rankings from 32 to 1 for the 2025 NFL season. So far, Schwab has announced teams 32-27. At number 27, he has the Giants ranked there. Schwab believes that one of the issues with New York entering the season is Mara, the owner because he thinks that they need to win in 2025 or Daboll and Schoen could potentially be out of a job. Schwab said,
“That set the tone for the Giants season. It’s all about whether Daboll and Schoen can survive again.
It won’t be easy. The team owner is on edge. The fan base was already there. The Giants’ solution at quarterback was signing two veterans who weren’t wanted back by their previous teams and drafting a quarterback who will need some work. On top of it all, the Giants have the toughest schedule in the NFL, and by a wide margin based on the projected betting win totals of their opponents, via Sharp Football Analysis.
It seems like Daboll and Schoen are dead men walking into a season with a roster that would need some help to get out of last place in the NFC East. So why bother bringing them back at all?
Mara acknowledged the results weren’t good enough, but gave Schoen credit for a good 2024 draft class and solid additions in free agency. Mara liked the way players responded to Daboll, and he was the NFL’s Coach of the Year just three seasons ago. It seemed in a way like Mara felt forced into being patient after the team went through four coaches, counting an interim, in six years after Tom Coughlin stepped down under pressure. The duo will need to show progress this season, even if the record isn’t that much better.”
One of the biggest issues with the Giants in 2025 will be a tough schedule, despite finishing in fourth place in the NFC East. New York drafted Abdul Carter from the Penn State Nittany Lions and Jaxson Dart from the Ole Miss Rebels in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. The Giants signing quarterback Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston on the roster should help the offense as well.
Malik Nabers is ready to solidify himself as one of the top wide receivers in his second NFL season. One of the saving graces for the Giants in 2025 could be its elite pass rush. Having Carter, Kayvon Thibodeaux, Dexter Lawrence, Brian Burns, and Darius Alexander could create headaches for other offensive lines across the league.
Some people think that Dart will start at some point for New York over Wilson and Winston. Schoen and Daboll actually need some time for this roster to develop. They both should be safe after the 2025 NFL season no matter what transpires. The one coach who should be on the hot seat in 2025 is defensive coordinator Shane Bowen. This defense has the potential to help the Giants win more games in 2025 than they did in 2024 despite the tough schedule coming up.
