Some people argue what is the most important aspect of an NFL game. Is it the players? The coaches? Maybe the the field? Is it the food? Is it the fans? One could argue it’s the referees and their crew.
Over the past few years, officiating in the NFL has been really poor. Referees call either too much or too little. They call the ticky tack ones, but not the clear and obvious ones. Calls have been more inconsistent, then consistent.
What to consider:
The NFL has been very, very, protective of the quarterback so much that a little tap is a 15-yard penalty. It’s not easy being a referee or official in any sport. It’s especially hard in the NFL where the game is so fast, they don’t catch everything.
With that being said, I would make everything reviewable. If I could make this call, teams would not gain or lose a challenge, that would remain the same. It would be on them if they want to spend a challenge on a holding penalty in the first quarter.
You’re probably thinking, “Tyler, won’t this slow the game down?” It will, but not by much. The NFL could make a category where certain calls like holding, false start, offsides, and others only get one minute review time. If no evidence of overturning the call is discovered in that time frame, the call stands.
In Conclusion:
I don’t want to hear “I’m not going to watch the games if it would slow the game down. Fine, go flower shopping with your wife or girlfriend when the witching hour is going on. It will make the calls more consistent. It should help you win your fantasy week. It will help you complete your parlay, and most importantly, it will help your team win.
