Peyton Bowen’s commitment to Notre Dame has been a topic of conversation in the recruiting world for quite some time now. Almost immediately after he committed, there has been buzz about him potentially flipping to another school before signing day. So far, that hasn’t been the case, however, the hype is as strong as ever around Bowen. Will he ultimately sign with Notre Dame, or will he flip? Here are my thoughts on the situation.

Will Peyton Bowen Stick With Notre Dame?

Peyton Bowen has been committed to Notre Dame since January. He has a great relationship with Marcus Freeman and the rest of the Notre Dame staff. If that’s the case, why are there so many rumors that he could potentially flip? In short, some schools just might have more working in their favor than the Irish. That’s not to say that Notre Dame doesn’t because believe me, they definitely do.

It’s going to come down to what Bowen prioritizes. It’s hard to say for certain whether or not he flips, mostly due to the fact that he hasn’t yet. There’s still quite a bit of time between now and early signing day, but right now, it feels like Bowen is going to stick with Notre Dame.

Who Else Has a Shot at Bowen?

Earlier in the cycle, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, and Oregon all felt as if they had a good chance to land Bowen, though, at this point in time, I feel as if that list has been trimmed down to just Oklahoma. Texas A&M is falling apart, and aside from NIL, they don’t have a whole lot to offer right now. As for Oregon, I don’t believe that they were ever truly contenders for Peyton Bowen.

Oklahoma however, has a lot still working in their favor, especially off the field. For starters, Oklahoma QB commit Jackson Arnold is extremely close with Bowen and has been a driving force in the recruitment. On top of that, Bowen’s girlfriend has signed with Oklahoma to play soccer. It may not seem like much, but as we saw in the Billy Bowman recruitment, it can ultimately be a difference-maker.

Speaking of Billy Bowman, he is likely another thing that Venables and co. are pitching. They are both from the same area, Bowen from Denton Guyer and Bowman from Denton Ryan, and they both play the safety position. Bowman has been one of the few bright spots on the Sooner defense so far this season. The two have grown closer over the past few months. This is what Bowen had to say about Billy Bowman

“I also really liked watching Billy Bowman play. We are both five-star safeties from Denton, and he plays so fast and just like me. He returns kicks, played WR in high school, and DB. I liked how they use him and the other safeties a lot. They get to run around and make plays.” – Peyton Bowen on Oklahoma Safety Billy Bowman

    There is

    – a multitude of reasons why one would assume that Peyton Bowen would flip to the Sooners. Still, he hasn’t flipped yet, which is why I’m hesitant to say that he will end up at OU. However, Bowen has visited OU a ton over the summer, and in cases like this one, you have to follow the visits. If Oklahoma can get Peyton Bowen on campus for an official visit, I would confidently say that he ends up in Norman next fall. Only time will tell, but this is definitely a recruitment to watch if you’re a Sooner fan.
