The Ohio State Buckeyes finished with a 10-2 record during the 2024 college football regular season and were the eighth seed in the college football playoffs. Ohio State steam rolled its opponents to another national title in program history.

With the Buckeyes defeating the Notre Dame Fighting Irish 34-23 during the game, many are wondering if Ohio State can go back-to-back. They lost a lot of talent to the NFL, but it may not even matter. The Buckeyes are returning a lot of talent to the team. There will be a different starting quarterback for the fourth straight season under head coach Ryan Day, but they are going to be just fine moving forward as a program.

CBS Sports Insider Has the Ohio State Buckeyes Ranked Number 1 After Spring Ball Occurs

Ohio State Buckeyes safety Caleb Downs (2) returns an interception during the second half of the Cotton Bowl Classic College Football Playoff semifinal game against the Texas Longhorns at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on Jan. 10, 2025. Ohio State won 28-14.

With spring ball in the rear view mirror for football programs, Brandon Marcello of CBS Sports ranked his Top 25 college football teams after the spring ball sessions. To no surprise, Marcello has Ohio State as the number one ranked team in the country. It will be interesting to see where they will be ranked in the Top 25 before the 2025 college football season begins. Marcello said,

“The national champs are the favorite to win back-to-back titles despite losing eight starters on defense and quarterback Will Howard. Why? The best player in college football, wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, is still on the roster, and safety Caleb Downs will lead a reloaded and talented roster. Don’t listen to the noise about a quarterback competition; Alabama transfer Julian Sayin will be the starter when the Buckeyes open the season against Texas. Odds: +600”

The quarterback battle between Sayin and Lincoln Kienholz will be the story of the summer for Ohio State. Freshman quarterback Tavien St. Clair has already been ruled out of the running, according to the Buckeyes head coach. Day will most likely lean with Sayin to start the 2025 college football season.

Ohio State will have a lot of talent on offense and defense in 2025. Smith and Carnell Tate will be the receiving tandem to watch out for during the college football season, and it would not be a surprise to see them ranked number one for a majority of the 2025 college football season.
