The New York Jets have missed the playoffs for the last several seasons. The Jets have not been to the playoffs since the 2010 NFL season.

New York is looking to finally get some luck on its side. They didn’t do well with quarterback Aaron Rodgers for the last two seasons. The Jets signed quarterback Justin Fields to a two-year deal in the offseason. There was a chance for New York to draft quarterback Shedeur Sanders from the Colorado Buffaloes in the 2025 NFL Draft, but the Jets decided not to draft him instead.
Fansided.com Thinks That the New York Jets Are 1 of 3 NFL Teams Who Dodged a Bullet By Not Drafting Shedeur Sanders In the 2025 NFL Draft

Christopher Kline of fansided.com wrote about three different NFL teams who lucked out by not drafting Sanders in the 2025 NFL Draft after Sanders had some off the field issues with the Cleveland Browns recently. The Browns took him in the fifth-round of the 2025 NFL Draft (144th overall). Kline thinks that the Jets are one of the three teams who dodged a bullet by not drafting Sanders. He said,
“The New York Jets moved on from Aaron Rodgers this offseason, turning to 26-year-old Justin Fields in free agency. There is real optimism around Fields in East Rutherford. He has been propped up as the unquestioned Week 1 starter, offering New York a unique dual-threat ability that stands in stark contrast to 41-year-old Rodgers’ immobility.
That said, folks thought the Jets might draft a quarterback, too. Just in case. Fields is only signed for two years and he has yet to stand out as a clear-cut franchise player in his previous spots. The tape in Chicago was a mixed bag at best. He looked better in Pittsburgh, but not enough for the Steelers to keep him on the field once 36-year-old Russell Wilson was up to speed.
Nabbing Sanders, whom many still view as a first round talent, in the third or fourth (or even fifth) round would have been viewed as a totally sensible investment in the moment. But think for a moment about the media circus that has followed the Jets for years, especially after Rodgers’ arrival. Sanders would have created a distraction behind Fields and put far more pressure on a new quarterback (and a new coach) than is necessary.”
Imagine if the Jets decided to take Sanders in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Also imagine if Sanders decided to commit traffic violations on the New Jersey Turnpike and also on I-95, I-80, or I-280 for example. There would have been distractions no doubt for the Jets organization, and they didn’t need another headache inside the building.
New York radio would have been calling for the Jets to release Sanders if he had committed traffic violations here. The Browns already have to deal with Sanders. Cleveland could decide to cut him before the 2025 NFL season if he continues to not behave. The Jets are better off with Fields as the starting quarterback in 2025 and if they need to take a franchise quarterback in the 2026 NFL Draft, so be it.
