For now, the Kansas City Chiefs will be playing home games at Arrowhead Stadium for the foreseeable future. Arrowhead Stadium is in Kansas City; Missouri and many Chiefs fans are wondering how many more years the franchise will be playing in the state of Missouri.

There is a chance that down the road, the Chiefs could be playing in a domed stadium in Kansas City, Kansas, which is not far from Kansas City, Missouri. Not only could the Chiefs be potentially moving, but the Royals could be potentially moving as well. One reporter dug into depth about the current situation with the Chiefs future at Arrowhead Stadium.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes (15) raises the Lamar Hunt Trophy with tight end Travis Kelce (87) after the AFC championship NFL game between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Kansas City Chiefs on Jan. 29, 2023, at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.

Arrowhead Stadium has been home to many memorable moments of the last several years with head coach Andy Reid, quarterback Patrick Mahomes, and bringing back home three Lombardi Trophies. They are one of the biggest draws in the NFL at the moment and there is a chance that Kansas City could have a new stadium in the future.

Eric Fisher of frontofficesports.com reported about the future of the Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium,

“The Kansas-Missouri stadium border war surrounding the NFL’s Chiefs and MLB’s Royals is set to continue, at least for a few more months, extending and heightening the drama around one of the most-watched facility deliberations in sports.

A bipartisan group of Kansas lawmakers voted unanimously Monday to keep in place a framework for stadium bonds, called Sales Tax and Revenue (STAR) bonds, that was originally passed last year. Those bonds had been set to expire on June 30, but the vote now legally extends the deadline by a year, to the same date in 2026. Kansas officials, however, have said they want a decision from the teams by the end of this year.

The Kansas funding, aimed at turning the state into a “professional sports powerhouse” in the words of Gov. Laura Kelly, would provide up to 70% of the cost of the stadiums for one or both of the teams.

“Although I don’t like having to extend the statute for this, I feel in fairness to the teams, it’s incumbent on us to make sure that we do things that are fair and above-board,” said Kansas House Speaker Dan Hawkins. “

There is time for things to be decided about the future of the Chiefs whether it will be in Missouri or heading to Kansas. If the Chiefs were to move to Kansas, they would be the latest team to be building a new domed stadium. The Cleveland Browns are about to begin building a new domed stadium in Brook Park, Ohio and they hope to be there at the start of the 2029 NFL season.

Also, the Buffalo Bills are building a new stadium, but that will be an outdoor stadium. The Chiefs have been playing at Arrowhead Stadium since 1972, and it opened on August 12, 1972. It has been open for over 50 years. Eventually, all good things come to an end. With the stadium being old, it may be time for the Chiefs to build a new home in Kansas City, Kansas.

Some people may not like the idea of a domed stadium for the Chiefs considering the fact there have been some really cold playoff games in the past in the state of Missouri. A lot of teams are trending toward domed stadiums in new locations. Not only would the Chiefs potentially move, but the Royals could potentially follow suit as well if they were to leave in the future.
