The Dallas Cowboys finished the 2024 season with a 6-11 record. Dallas decided to make a bold move in the offseason trading for wide receiver George Pickens from the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Cowboys traded away a third-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft for it.

The reason why Dallas decided to make this move was to help out quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb. Despite the trade, Lamb will still be the number one option in the offense, but Pickens will no doubt be the second option in the offense. The Cowboys are looking to make a deep run in the playoffs in 2025, but there is a chance that they could also miss the postseason as well.
Dallas Cowboys Insider Believes That the George Pickens Trade Will Be Worth It For the Team

Saad Yousuf of The Athletic covers the Cowboys and there has been one main story that he has been watching with this football team during OTAs and mandatory minicamp. The one thing he has watched is how Pickens would potentially evolve into this offense. Yousuf said,
“The George Pickens hype is understandable. The Cowboys essentially acquired Pickens from the Pittsburgh Steelers for a third-round pick. If early showings are any indication, the move has big boom potential. Obviously, there’s a reason the Steelers moved on from Pickens but those concerns are more with his attitude and demeanor. In terms of actual talent, there are very few questions. Pickens is a big-bodied receiver, a downfield threat and supreme complement to what CeeDee Lamb has already provided to the offense. If Pickens keeps his head on straight, Dallas could have one of the league’s most dynamic receiving duos.”
Lamb and Pickens could become one of the best wide receiver duos in the entire NFL in 2025. During the 2024 season with Pittsburgh, he caught 59 passes for 900 yards receiving and three touchdowns, along with averaging 15.3 yards per reception. Pickens was targeted 103 times during the 2024 season with the Steelers.
He is 24 years old and entering the final year of his rookie contract. Depending on what he does during the 2025 NFL season, maybe there is a chance that the Cowboys will offer him a contract extension. The former Georgia Bulldogs wide receiver is looking to execute his role perfectly with Dallas. If the Cowboys win the NFC East in 2025, it will be because of the combination of Lamb and Pickens at the wide receiver position.
