What. A. Game. The offenses came to play in Knoxville today, both of the offenses looked great and both quarterbacks looked especially good. The Gators nearly had a miracle when they recovered the onside kick with 17 seconds left, however with no timeouts and needing a touchdown the time proved to be too much of a factor. Let’s look at some of the Gators who had standout performances in todays 38-33 loss to the Volunteers.

    Gator Standouts Offense

Where else to start but the quarterback, Anthony Richardson. What a performance by Richardson today he was 24 of 44 for 453 yards and two touchdowns, he also had one interception however, it was thrown on a hail marry at the end of the game. On top of the stellar passing numbers, Richardson had 17 rushes for 62 yards and added two more touchdowns on the ground.

For the next two standout performances on offense we have two receivers,  Justin Shorter and Ricky Pearsall. Shorter torched the Volunteers defense all day racking up seven receptions for 155 yards. Pearsall was the second receiver for the Gators to top 100 yards in the game, racking up five receptions for 103 yards and adding a touchdown.

    Gator Standouts Defense

In a shootout loss with a score of 38-33 and a game where the Volunteers put up 575 total yards of offense it can be tough to find good performances on the defensive end however, here is a player that made key plays during the game. First, Ventrell Miller, he caused a fumble on the Volunteers first drive of the game which put the Gators in a good position to score, however the field goal attempt was a miss. Miller also recovered a fumble later in the game however the resulting drive ended in a punt.

    Gator Standouts Special Teams

While overall there was nothing special about the Gators special teams throughout the game, one play lands Diwun Black on this list. The onside kick recovery at the end of the game. Even though the Gators ended up losing, Black’s recovery of the onside kick gave the Gators life at the end of the game and put the, in the position to potentially be able to score. Even though the score never came, the onside kick recovery deserves to make this list.
