The Texas Longhorns will be in a different era under head coach Steve Sarkisian during the 2025 college football season. Texas has a chance to be one of the most polarizing teams in the country because of quarterback Arch Manning.

Manning is going to be one of the biggest household names during the 2025 season. The Longhorns starting quarterback could very well be in the conversation for the Heisman Trophy and also the number one pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. With Texas being in the college football playoffs semifinals for the last two seasons, some fans feel like Manning being the starter in 2025 could finally get them over the top.
College Football Analyst Reveals the Importance Of Texas Longhorns Quarterback Arch Manning Being the Full-Time Starting Quarterback

Texas will be tested out of the gates in Week 1 on the road against the Ohio State Buckeyes. Manning started some games in 2024 for the Longhorns because of some injuries to Quinn Ewers, but Manning has the keys to the car now. Joel Klatt of The Joel Klatt Show spoke on his podcast about the Week 1 matchup between Ohio State and Texas.
He said about Arch being the full-time starter for the 2025 season for this football program,
“The first start in the Arch era. Now, I know that Arch has started before, but the first start of the Arch era this is now his team. This is his program. And so Arch Manning as your starter for Texas, and he’s going to get that start against the defending national champion on the road.”
Texas has a lot of money invested into this roster for the 2025 college football season. Manning completed 67.8% of his passes for 939 yards, nine touchdowns and two interceptions. He also had a couple of rushing touchdowns in 2024 as well. Manning is 6’4″ and weighs 225 lbs. There is no doubt that he is going to be one of the biggest storylines for the Longhorns when they go on the road and face the Buckeyes in Week 1.
Ohio State has to replace its entire starting defensive line from a season ago. The Buckeyes lost a lot of talent to the NFL, but they will be able to reload. Texas lost to Ohio State 28-14 in the national semifinals last year. The Longhorns and Manning will look to make a Week 1 statement on the road and there is no doubt that there will be many eyeballs on him this year.
