The New York Giants have been in the headlines all week long. It all started on Monday when they benched Daniel Jones for Tommy DeVito. Jones was demoted to third string during the week and then he barely took snaps in practice on Wednesday and was also the scout team safety in practice on Thursday.
After practice, Daniel Jones thanked the Giants organization in a press conference. Drew Lock will be the backup for the remainder of the season and they also signed Tim Boyle to the practice squad earlier this week.
New York Giants Release Daniel Jones On Friday
On Friday, the Giants made a stunning decision and released Daniel Jones. It felt like this move came out of nowhere and many thought he would spend the rest of the 2024 season with the team. However, he asked for his release and the team granted his wish. Owner John Mara made a statement on Friday after Jones was released.
It didn’t work out for both parties and it will be interesting to see where he lands next. Daniel Jones was the sixth overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft out of Duke.
Fans React To Release
The end of an awful era. Finally.

So you let your pro bowl RB walk because you don’t want to pay him 13 million a year then overpay an overrated QB at 40 million a year only to release him the same season when your former pro bowl RB is putting up MVP numbers for another team?

Say what you want, but this is the saddest day in Giants history. In my opinion, worse than when Manning retired. He poured his soul into this franchise, and we threw him to the curb. Shame on you John Mara.
Thank you 8. ❤️

Bad pick from the jump. Class act who was dragged through the mud with this pathetic once proud franchise. Hope DJ strives in his next journey.

You failed him tbh

With Jones being released, it is time for the New York Giants to look forward. Tommy DeVito will play against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this weekend. The Giants are 2-8 and the Buccaneers are 4-6. It is very possible that New York loses the rest of the way and could very well draft either Shedeur Sanders from Colorado or Cam Ward from Miami as its next franchise quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft.
