Eagles 2.0
There have been many questions answered for the Philadelphia Eagles this offseason. The Birds struck a huge free agency pass rusher, WR, CB, and a handful of rookies with major potential heading into the season. That being said the Eagles look like they have gotten a huge upgrade compared to last season. They have the makings for a deep playoff run as previous seasons plagues have appeared to be cured. However, one question remains about the man leading the offensive charge, Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts.
Ladies and Gentleman, Jalen Hurts
Jalen Hurts will look to make another big leap in his third season with the Eagles. Hurts improved his numbers last season as compared to his debut in 2020. His game on the ground has made this Eagles offense dangerous, along with a top tier offensive line, coming in at number one in QB rushing yards in 2021 (748). His demeanor and personality inspire his teammates on and off the field. Another improved season for Jalen will make the Eagles a force that has been lackluster since after their Super Bowl win in 2017.
Jalen’s Second Shaky Season
Last year, the Eagles had an early wild card exit ending the season 9-8. Four of those loses were within one score, winnable games. Hurts and his improved offense will have to overcome teams with stronger defensive cores to capitalize on those close games. There will also need to be improvements in Hurts ability to pass the ball when it really counts. Coming in last year ranked 22 with a passer rating of 87.2 and a completion percentage of 61.3%, lands him in the lower half of starting QBs.
Optimistic upside for Jalen Hurts
Optimistic is a scary word for Eagles fans, as I am one myself and don’t like to say it often. Although Hurts has only played one full season as starting quarterback, in my opinion there is much to look forward to heading into the 2022-23 season. His confidence is certainly showing through his shortcomings. Judging by his improved numbers and his team rallying behind him, the Eagles look to be a fierce competitor heading into the season. Howie got Hurts the protection and weapons, it’ll be up to him to put it together. Until then, the question remains: Will Jalen Hurts turn up for Philadelphia?
