When Cleveland Browns starting quarterback Deshaun Watson tore his Achilles in Week Seven, it was the end of his season and, most likely, Brown’s career.
Watson has been awful ever since he put on a Browns jersey in the fall of 2022, and the more he was thrown out there, the worse he got.
It’s Time For The Cleveland Browns To Play Pretend
Everyone in the Cleveland Browns building knew Watson couldn’t play anymore, but they kept throwing him out there each week because they gave away three first-rounders and guaranteed him $230 million.
The Browns were going to run Watson into the ground because they would never admit their mistake, but the Achilles injury helped fans see that the 29-year-old quarterback wasn’t the only issue with the team but he was the main problem.
Cleveland still has two years of guaranteed money to give Watson, but when the offseason comes, they need to pretend he is not on the team when they are trying to make a move for a quarterback.
The Browns can’t afford to act like Watson is still in their plans this offseason because doing so will get everyone fired next offseason.
Multiple reports have come out that head coach Kevin Stefanski is safe and will be coaching again in 2025. However, he cannot run it back with the former Clemson star at quarterback, knowing his job is not safe.
If Cleveland can add a quarterback in free agency or draft one in the first round, they need to do so, and when they are making their decision, they need to play pretend and not even remember that Watson is on the roster.
We all know that if the Browns have in the back of their minds that Watson can play again, they will do nothing at the position this offseason, and the team will be going through the same cycle as it is right now.
